Just a heads up: The Lowbrows of Ann Arbor want to stop out for a visit this Sunday the 2d at about 1-1:30. I talked with Bernard Friberg and he thinks maybe 15-20 will be coming. I mentioned our parking situation and they'll carpool as much as possible.
Bernard says that a few of the Lowbrows live in our area, so who knows, maybe there's another potential link for us.

MHO Team:
Subject: Availability of Comcast high speed internet service at the McMath-Hulbert Solar Observatory.
Don Williams
Vice President Technical Operations
Comcast Cablevision
It was good talking briefly with you after my two years retirement from General Motors.
This is a two pronged request.
1. For information on any special programs that Comcast may have for the connection of educational facilities to "Comcast Workplace" internet services. We wish to operate a server at this location to provide information on astronomy and solar activities, and to video conference with teachers and students at K-12 schools.
2. The ability to back feed video for inclusion on a "government access channel". (future)
The institution requesting the information is the McMath-Hulbert Astronomical Society (an educational / research, non-profit, 501(c)3 tax exempt facility, Tax ID # 38-3193551) ,which operates the McMath-Hulbert Solar Observatory located at 895 North Lake Angelus Road, Lake Angelus, MI.
For reference, It's 1/4 mile west of Great Lakes Crossing.
HISTORICAL:
The Observatory was founded in 1931 and was operated by the University of Michigan as a premier Solar Research Facility until 1980. It functioned as offices for Energy Conversion Devices, of Troy, for another 12 years and is now privately owned.
The organization is "Dedicated to making a difference in Science, Art and Education"
Participating schools include the Pontiac School System, Oakland County Schools, Warren Consolidated Schools, Oakland Vocational Centers and others.
We have requested a survey by the Comcast Waterford group and they tell us that a drop onto our property from the north would require a hard cable tap and construction, approximate cost $2,000.00 to be born by us..
Could you verify this charge, in light of our educational status, the availability of service at this location, and anticipated data speeds?
For more information on the observatory and it's programs, contact the director, Mr. James Ross at the observatory, 895 North Lake Angelus Rd., Lake Angelus, MI 48326, Phone # (248)-335-4791, Fax. # (248)-335-2097.

Hi Ed:
This is EXCELLENT! Please keep me "posted" regarding further developments. I will forward this to Ken Grundberg and the other gentlemen supporting his technical efforts at the observatory. I'm sure they will be excited.
Again, EXCELLENT!
Best,
Jim
