MHO Team:

The following are some "thoughts at large" submitted by Bill Blevins. They certainly bare some consideration by all of us whom are interested in continuing to see the observatory become successful. Please "post" any responses and/or supporting activities you might bring to bare regarding their accomplishment.

WEB-SITE DEVELOPMENT

** Home **
General welcome and description. Emphasize some sections of the site and
include links.
I WILL WORK ON THIS....Jim

** About **
-- Could have a virtual observatory tour. I've done some quicktime VR
before, so maybe we could do a couple of those.
Big Bear Solar Observatory has a tour section.
http://www.bbso.njit.edu/tour.html
LET'S DESIGN, SHOOT AND MODEL ONE ELEMENT. STEVE STREET COULD HELP.....AND PERHAPS SOME OTHERS.

WEB-CAM
-- Could set up a webcam at the observatory possibly.
WE HAVE A WEB-CAM / NEED TO INSTALL IN MCMATH TOWER / DOME ROTATION AND SLIT OPENING ALREADY WEB-ENABLED / CABLING EXISTS /

-- Info about the radio station.
LOOP RECORDING ABOUT OBSERVATORY TO BROADCAST ON RADIO STATION

** Learning **
-- Have flash or html modules on different aspects of solar astronomy and
other subjects.
I HAVE SOME "LINKS" AND MATERIALS

** History **
-- Could have a section describing some of the equipment and how it was
used. I could see creating some flash animation of the light paths in the
spectroheliograph or something similar.
WE HAVE A CUT-AWAY DRAWING OF THE MCMATH TOWER TO SERVE AS TEMPLATE
3-D SIMULATION OF TOWER IN VARIOUS STAGES OF PRODUCTION / REID BEAUCHAMP / JEFF HERNDON
HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL MATERIALS

** Film Archive ** (or a better name might be Media Library)
WE HAVE DIGITIZED MATERIALS / MORE TO COME
-- Are there any audio recordings of McMath or Hulbert? That would be an
interesting thing to put up there.
WE HAVE NO AUDIO NOR AM I AWARE OF ANY
-- Could have info on any historical printed materials at the observatory.
WE HAVE THESE IN HTML ALREADY / AND MANY MORE TO DEVELOP

** Projects **
-- Tom's Dome Automation Project
-- Need to add Dan's SETI project

WE HAVE A 3-D SIMULATION OF THE SUBMERSIBLE AND WEB LINKS TO SITE ABOUT THEM / REID BEAUCHAMP (OWNER)

** News **
WE HAVE LOT'S OF THAT

MHO Team:

LAST WEEK
Visit by MHAS president, Pat Seitzer produced more historical McMath-Hulbert library books from U of M Library. In addition Pat brought some more digital CD materials (film clips) of the vaious historical movie footage he has discovered. They are awesome. He has taken several more 16mm films from the observatory to reveiw and transfer to digital media during the upcoming summer.

The 48th District Court / Oakland Schools ISD Pilot Videoconferencing project was initiated with mixed results on Friday, May 2, 2003 at 2:00PM. More to come as initial network problems are addressed and eliminated. Special thanks to Ed Hendry and Tony Galucci for "exceptional performance (professional support) beyond the call of duty!"

The Jayno Adams Elementary School visit was a huge success even though the weather was uncooperative (cloudy). The students toured the observatory and all of its additional assets (nature trail, one-man submersible, etc.). They also took some "digital pictures" of their visit which have been e-mailed to them at their school in addition to setting up a "blog-site" for continued communicaitons with the observatory. Thanks to Discovery Summer Program Alumni J.R. Logan for assisting the students with their discovery tour. J.R is also responsible for the recent Computer Laboratory being built-out downstairs. The students and their parents also participated in the "48th District Court Videoconference Test" thereby becoming official K-12 "telecommunications pioneers."

The Oakland Schools / Automation Alley Global Trade Mission (GTM Project) taking place at the Auburn Hills / Oakland Community College campus this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday was also graced with a presentation via the observatory by Mr. Edo Mansaluca whom has been collaborating with the observatory for the past year on African / American trade issues. Mr. Mansaluca presented African Trade issures regarding Technology & Information Transfer and Art & Cultural trade with America. Thanks to Paul Briercheck of Oakland Schools Technology Center / Southeast for capturing his presentation in "digital pictures" and sharing them with us. Congratulations to Mr. Mansaluca on what I have been lead to believe was an outstanding presentation to the students of Oakland County. Another highlight of the event was a "global videoconference" with various sites around the world including Europe, Brazil and Mexico.

Sunday
Work continues on "storm damage" recovery. Thanks to Gavin Scott and family for volunteering to help remove the debris. Bill & Julie Blevins allso visited the observatory to do some successful "Solar Digital Imaging" in the McMath Tower. Images were acquired and will probably be "posted" on our developing web-site. Bill has also been doing some work on bringing the web-site "masthead" to our official letterhead for consistentcy in our corporate identity elements. He has also been acquiring "digital images" on the various observatory equipment and has posted them on our developing web-site.

Other "tidbits"
Tom Hagen according to an e-mail I received from Tony Gallucci (works on our videoconferencing efforts) is "casting about" locally for interested "Amatuer Radio" afficionado's. I'm sure there will be more to come. Stay tuned!

Ed Hendry and MHAS Secretary Lynne Shelton are working on the filing of the MHAS 2003 Tax Returns due May 15, 2003.

SATURDAY May 10th 2003 is Astronomy Day. Little if any preparations have been made at the observatory for an 2003 event. Therefore we will not be hosting any visitors to the observatory. However, if you have nohthing to do....Reid Beauchamp will be here to take "disposible items" (trash) to the Pontiac Dump on Collier Road. All HELP with removing items from the observatory in this regard would be appreciated!!!!

Best,

Jim
